At the risk of sounding like a kiss ass, Deathwish Inc. is pretty much a flawless label. Somehow managing to always find the cream of the crop in every imaginable flavor of hardcore, from arty to beat down, few labels have such a constant track record. However, even though every band gets a co-sign from Jacob Bannon (one of the most influential figures in hardcore music and the artist who launched a thousand copycats), sometimes records fall through the cracks and get missed out on. Case in point Lewd Acts Black Eye Blues. While this record probably has the most "singing" of any release in the Deathwish catalog the lyrical bedlam and unyielding pace of its dissonant compositions puts this release several steps ahead of the competition. Pick it up on CD or vinyl over at Deathwish Inc.
We featured two songs from a Underground Communique release last week, but the label puts out so much great stuff we had to feature another record. Explode and Make Up's family tree includes stints in 88 Fingers Louie, The Methadones, and The Bomb which is a pretty good indication of what you're going to find here. Fast, scrappy, 90s melodic hardcore with no frills or bullshit. You can pick up a copy of this on vinyl (with a download card) at Underground Comm.
Hope you all enjoy this week's picks! If you like what you hear pick up a record, tell a friend, or go to a show. We'll have another installment ready for you next week. Songs go up Sunday night so make sure to check back around 9PM EST each week, and if you've got a band you feel like we need to feature let us know.
