All Time Low Interview

October 2006

1. For the record, please state your name and role in the band.

My name is Alexander William Gaskarth and I sing and play guitar in the
Band All Time Low.

2. As a fellow member of the Class of 2006 I would like to thank you guys for making us proud and representing. Do you guys believe that your age has been a positive thing in your career or a detriment, and why?

2k6, holla! Haha. The way I look at it is like this :the younger we are, the more time we have to grow. Not only do we have a head-start on perfecting our sound and maturing musically, but being the same age as many of our listeners helps bridge the gap between my lyrics, and the listener's ability to relate to them. I would use the term “For Us, By Us" but there's already a clothing company of the same name.

3. How difficult was it to be in high school and handle being in a band at the same time?

I personally felt like a caged animal all through high school - the daily repetition just wasn't for me, so there was often conflict between my priority, which was the band, and my effort in classes... but I did manage to get through, obviously, so it wasn't all bad. I paid my dues and now I’m on to better things.

4. When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue music as a career? How did your parents react to it?

I knew I wanted to be in a band the second I watched Blink-182's
Urethra Chronicles 2. At first, the parentals were skeptical when I broke the
news that I wasn't going to college and was going to be a rock star, but
When things started to come together for us at the end of our senior year,
they came to fully support our dream. I'm no rock star, but at least we're
Doing this full-time, and I've got plenty to show for it, ya know? The most
important part of it all, is that they want to see me happy, and I am.

5. What are your favorite songs on Put Up or Shut Up?

“Coffee Shop Soundtrack” because its scandalous and “The Party Scene” because it's all about realizing that we never have to grow up.

How does the writing process in All Time Low work?

Generally, one of us will bring an idea to the table, and we'll all
Build off of it from there. After that, I write lyrics and melodies until
we've fashioned a pretty new jam.

6. What kind of music and bands did you listen to growing up? I can hear a bit of the excellent Green Day and Blink-182 influence that people our age grew up with, but what else did you listen to?

I was exposed to The Beatles, Floyd and Genesis early on, and later
discovered bands like Green Day and Blink through my middle school
years. I've genuinely loved music my entire life, and I'm a total sucker for
pop. Recently I've been spending a lot of time listening to bands like Over
It, Jimmy Eat World and Relient K. Good stuff!

7. Do you have any stories about crazy fans or insane tours?

Haha, I always answer this question the same way; I've been completely
desensitized to anything "crazy" or "insane" because we are all
ridiculous. Its common for one of us to be pants-less or playing football with a roll of Bounty Paper Towesl at any given moment, so when someone asks me to single out a specific moment, its almost impossible. Life is insane.

8.What is the most embarrassing thing on your iPod? I have all the Disney songs, from movies like The Little Mermaid on my iPod. Since I have admitted that, I hope you tell me something really embarrassing.

I'm not really embarrassed by anything on my iPod, because I listen to
it all and genuinely enjoy it. I take shit from the rest of my band for
having all of the Hilary Duff records, but I'm not ashamed of it.She makes some damn good pop!

9. Where do you want to take All Time Low in the future?

Straight to the top.

10. Who are some bands that you would love to tour with in the future. You can use unrealistic bands like the Beatles, or something realistic. Whatever you like.

Journey! and... The All-American Rejects. Oh, and Jack's Mannequin

11. Do you have any last words for your fans?
Thank you for reading this entire thing and having an interest in what
We are saying and doing! You mean the world to us and we love you for all
Of the support you've given us. Come hang at a show sometime soon!
Hugs and kisses.

Thanks to Mike Cubillos for setting the interview up and Alex for his time.
